Otago lie in 5th position in the Championship standings, right behind Southland in 4th and trailing by just a single point. The home side do however have a game in hand.
Otago are coming off a brilliant last gasp away win over high flying Wellington, whereas Southland thumped Manawatu 49-14 a week ago.
Therefore, both sides will be full of confidence heading into the encounter in a match that could have major implications upon who makes the semi-finals in the Championship.
The teams last met in 2014 in Invercargill, with Otago winning it 33-22.
