Connacht scrum crumbles under pressure and the referee awards a penalty. It is taken quickly and Eoghan Masterson does not retreat in order to save conceding a try but he is binned and a penalty try awarded.
why the **** did Newcastle just get a penalty try???
Masterson is binned for not retreating after a quick penalty.
Newcastle are over the line, and with no TMO the referee can't check if the ball was grounded, so it will be a scrum 5 metres out to Newcastle.
Danie Poolman gathers from the kick-off, but the ball is knocked on as it goes through the hands.
And Newcastle get us underway.
Peter Robb failed the head injury assessment in the first half so he was not allowed to take further part in the game.
A well-fought first half that has been dictated by the strong wind discouraging both teams from kicking. They go in at half-time on a level pegging but it has been Connacht who have been the better side. They thrice got into the Newcastle 22' but failed to score and were shocked when Niyi Adeolokun ran in from 60 metres following a bad defensive mistake. Connacht's pressure finally paid off, however, when Jack Carty's skip pass found Danie Poolman who finished well in the corner. This one very much up for grabs and Connacht will have the wind at their backs in the second half, to follow.
come on connacht
