NZ take a 21-15 lead over Aus into halftime. NZ struck first with a try just four minutes in, but Aus hit back superbly with a score to trail 7-5. NZ missed a penalty midway through the half, but had their second try shortly after to make it 14-5. Aus added a penalty around the half hour mark, but NZ responded with their third try to open up a 21-8 lead. Aus finished the half with their second try to trail by just six points at the break.
