The Crusaders have won the last 5 games between these sides with their biggest win coming in a 54-17 win last year. 2016 was the Blues best opportunity to grab a win but they went down 21-26 at home

The Blues host the back to back defending champion Crusaders in opening round of Super Rugby. The Blues won just four of their 16 games last season to finish firmly entrenched at the bottom of the New Zealand Conference. The Crusaders recorded 14 victories to top the overall standings, sweeping aside the Sharks, Hurricanes and Lions in the play-offs to successfully defend their title.
