A product of the Leicester Tigers Academy, Cobden was called into Nottingham Rugby as injury cover through the 2014/15 and 2015/16 season.
He made limited appearances in the 2016 season due to several injuries.
Cobden is also the Nottingham Rugby Academy assistant head coach, alongside fellow senior player Matt Everard.
In May 2017, Nottingham Rugby are pleased to announce the re-signing of centre Joe Cobden for the 2017/18 season.
Having penned a new one-year deal at The Bay, the 25 year-old will continue as one of Nottingham's longest-serving players, having joined the Green and Whites from Leicester Tigers back in the summer of 2011.
However, injury has been a constant thorn in Cobden's side in recent seasons, with the popular back making just one appearance for the club between April 2013 and March 2015.
He then returned for three fixtures at the end of the 2015/16 campaign, before suffering another set-back during pre-season, eventually returning to the field in December, and going on to feature seven times in league and cup, scoring one try.
