Yorkshire Carnegie have appointed former Wasps and Bath player Martyn Wood as the club’s new director of rugby ahead of the 2019-20 Greene King IPA Championship season.
Wood joins the club from National League 1 side Hull Ionians, having previously also played for his home town club of Harrogate.
The Yorkshireman will now lead the Emerald Headingley-based club into the new season as he begins recruitment for his squad.
Scrum-half Wood spent the majority of his playing career at Wasps after being spotted playing for Yorkshire by Nigel Melville, the then Wasps coach.
In total, he made 126 appearances for Wasps between 1996 and 2003. His form for Wasps saw him earn a place in the England squad for the tour to South Africa in 2000 and he followed that up a year later with a call-up for England’s North American tour, when he gained both his caps for England against Canada and the USA.
He was drafted in as cover for both the 1999 and 2003 World Cups but did not feature in either tournament.
