World Rugby Women's Rankings powered by Capgemini preview: 14 September, 2022

World Rugby has published the ranking permutations for the Rugby World Cup 2021 warm-up match between England and Wales on Wednesday.

Permutation highlights:

  • England cannot improve their rating with victory over Wales due to the 24.25 rating points between the teams before home weighting is factored in
  • Defeat for England would still leave them with at least a 4.21 rating point cushion over New Zealand in second
  • Wales will climb above Ireland into eighth place if they beat England
  • They cannot go any higher, but could close to within 0.15 rating points of opponents of RWC 2021 pool opponents Australia

Match officials:

  • Aurélie Groizeleau (France) referees England v Wales for the first time. She has taken charge of England on seven occasions, most recently against USA in their other RWC 2021 warm-up game this month. The French official has only refereed Wales once before, against Canada last November

Team news highlights:

  • England have retained only four players in his starting line-up from the USA victory earlier this month in Zoe Aldcroft, Zoe Harrison, Emily Scarratt and Ellie Kildunne. Sarah Hunter returns at number eight to captain the side, while prop Vickii Cornborough will play her 70th test for the Red Roses and fly-half Zoe Harrison her 40th
  • Six of Wales' seven personnel changes come in the pack with only Natalia John and Sioned Harries backing up in the starting line-up from the loss to Canada last month, with incoming hooker Carys Phillips to play her 60th test for her country. The only change to the backline see Megan Webb make a first appearance of 2022 at full-back
