World Rugby Rankings Permutations

World Rugby Rankings Permutations

Ahead of this weekend's test rugby action World Rugby has published the latest rankings permutations for men’s and women’s internationals in Europe and the Americas.

Men’s World Rugby Rankings

There are five matches across the 6 Nations and Americas Rugby Championship this weekend with potential for significant movement.

Wales and Brazil could equal their highest rankings positions, but the former would need to win and Italy to defeat Ireland.

France (10) v Scotland (7)

France will move above Fiji and Argentina and into eighth place with victory but cannot overtake Scotland regardless of the margin of victory.

A defeat for France (more than 15 points) and an Italian win by an equally big margin would see Les Bleus fall outside of the top 10 for the first time, with the Azzurri taking their place.

Scotland need to win by that big a margin to take sixth spot off Australia.

Wales (4) v England (3)

A Wales victory will make them the higher-ranked of the two nations

If Wales win and Ireland are beaten in Italy, Wales will occupy second place to match their previous best ranking

England can only take second spot off Ireland if they win by more than 15 points and the Irish fail to beat Italy

Italy (15) v Ireland (2)

A first win in 19 Six Nations matches would lift Italy up three places and into 12th

If the margin is greater than 15 points, they will also overtake Japan and claim 11th place

Ireland will drop to third if they are beaten and England avoid defeat against Wales in Cardiff

The gap between Ireland and top-ranked New Zealand will remain at 2.62 points regardless of how well Ireland win

Canada (21) v Chile (29)

Canada cannot improve on their current position of 21st

Chile need to win by more than 15 points to climb above Germany and into 28th in the rankings

USA (13) v Brazil (26)

USA cannot improve on their current position of 13th

Brazil will climb to a new all-time high of 23rd if they beat the Eagles and claim back-to-back wins against North America’s top two nations

Os Tupis could even move above Canada, who they defeated a fortnight ago, if they win by more than 16 points and the Canucks fail to beat Chile on Friday

Women’s World Rugby Rankings

The Women’s Six Nations and Rugby Europe Women’s Championship return with a fascinating schedule of matches likely to have an impact on the current women’s rankings.

Italy (7) v Ireland (8)

Italy cannot climb any higher than their present position of seventh

Ireland will be the higher ranked of the two teams if they win, with Italy possibly dropping as many as two places to ninth depending on the result of the Wales v England game

Ireland will drop below Spain to 10th if they are beaten by more than 15 points and Las Leonas beat Russia

France (3) v Scotland (12)

France cannot take second spot off England no matter how well they win

Scotland will move above South Africa and into 11th place in victory

A loss by more than 15 points would see France replaced in third by Canada

Wales (9) v England (2)

Wales will climb two places and move above Italy and Ireland if they win by more than 15 points

England cannot fall from second place but the gap between themselves and France will be down to just 0.18 rating points if they are beaten and Les Bleues beat Scotland by more than 15

It is not possible for England to close the gap between themselves and top-ranked New Zealand as the Red Roses will not pick up any rating points for victory

Spain will just about hang onto their place in the world’s top 10 if they are beaten

Any form of victory will be enough to lift Russia up two places to 18th
