Winners and Losers of the 36 man Welsh Squad

Warren Gatland has named his squad to face South Africa, Australia (Two tests) and the Queensland Reds. Eight of those 36 are props with the split going five tightheads and three looseheads. Here are the winners and losers.

Losers:

Nicky Smith: As mentioned the balance of the props looks to be a key point to focus on. Nicky Smith has been excellent this season and would have been an easy pick ahead of the announcement.

Morgan Morris: Another player left out of the squad who is in great form. Morris put in a big shift on Saturday helping Ospreys into the play off's despite the 2% chance of making it before the weekend begun.

Ioan Lloyd and Cai Evans: Both players played or supported at 10 during the Six Nations and both have been dropped from the squad.

Winners:

Sam Costelow: Costelow is the only recognised 10 in the squad, the pressure will be on him but no doubt welcomed.

Cory Hill: Hill left the country to play in Japan and signed for a second dividion side. His inclusion has come with some confussed looks when the squad was announced.

Ellis Bevan, Keelan Giles, Jacob Beetham and Josh Hathaway: The listed are the four uncapped players named in the squad

Warren Gatland had this to say: "A decision has been taken to give Josh Adams, Ryan Elias and Will Rowlands a break this summer, so they have not been selected in the squad".
