Ireland's captain David McCann produced a man-of-the-match performance with his second rower Thomas Ahern grabbing a hattrick as Ireland upstaged a powerful England u20s side to claim an outstanding 39-21 bonus-point victory at Franklin's Gardens on Friday evening. Both sides entered the game unbeaten but Noel McNamara's youngster produced a fine performance scoring six tries to guide them to a fantastic victory.
England came into the top-of-the-table encounter with a formidable record, having won 23 of their last 26 U-20 Six Nations home games but it was Ireland's pack who were dominant with Alex Soroka scoring on his full debut, Hayden Hyde, Ahern and Ethan McIlroy all dotted down to see the defending champions surge into a rousing 29-7 half-time.
McIlroy's try was one of the picks of the day with flanker Sean O'Brien and Hayden Hyde producing outstanding offloads in the build up to it.
England did hit back in the second half but it the damage was done and Ireland march on to a potential Triple Crown and back to back Grand Slams.
