Racing 92 got off their 2020/21 TOP14 season off to a great start with a 23-27 away victory over Lyon who were seven points ahead of Racing before the 2019/20 TOP14 season was abandoned.
Scotland international Finn Russell was at the heart of Racing's victory with Wallaby back Kurtley Beale making his debut for Racing at fullback.
While Beale had a quiet game for Racing, Russell managed to score a try, set up another and claimed a try assist.
Russell made 30 running metres beating two defenders and made his only attempted tackle.
The 27-year-olds stubbed a kick into the Lyon 22 while Racing were attacking and followed up well to charge down Clement Laporte's kick with former Los Puma Juan Imhoff pouncing on the loose ball to score.
Russell then threw an excellent skip pass out to Louis Dupichot who did well to finish off the try outwide as Racing too a 16-20 lead with over half a hour to play.
Russell then extended Racing's lead with 23 minutes left to play as he somehow managed to dot the ball with four Lyon defenders around him.
Racing's 11 point advantage did not last too long as Josua Tuisova crashed over for a try on the hour mark with Leo Berdeu converting for Lyon.
Berdeu had the opportunity from the tee to make it a one point game but failed to convert as Racing held out for the 23-27 victory.
