Racing 92 to ran in five tries to beat Montpellier 41-17 in Friday's TOP14 action. The clash saw Rugby World Cup-winner Handre Pollard suffer a major injury that forced him to be stretchered off the pitch with a knee injury while Wallaby ace Kurtley Beale was sent off on his home debut at Paris La Defense Arena.
Beale was sent off after the hour mark with Racing already boasting a healthy 31-3 lead thanks mostly to the efforts of star pivot Finn Russell and centre Virmi Vakatawa. Racing came flying out the blocks with scrumhalf Teddy Iribaren slotting penalties either side of Teddy Baubigny's unconverted try as they took a 11-0 lead after 20 minutes before Handre Pollard got Montpellier on the board with a penalty.
Montpellier hand a player sent to the sin bin either side of a Teddy Iribaren penalty with Yacouba Camara and Enzo Forelleta sent for 10 minutes in the naughty chair before Juan Imhoff made it 19-3 at the break. Virimi Vakatawa and Antonie Classens both scored in the first ten minutes of the second half before Handre Pollard was stretchered off the pitch with Beale being sent off ten minutes later.
Beale was sent off for this high shot on Montpellier centre Arthur Vincent.
The Wallaby will face a disciplinary panel and will hope to have his ban dismissed with Racing 92 hosting Clermont in the Champions Cup quarter-final next week.
The red card had little impact on the game with Montpellier scoring two tries through Cobus Reinach and Nico Janse van Rensburg but they never really put Racing's lead under pressure with Hassane Kolingar making it a 24 point victory with a try in the final play of the game.
