Two of Australia's brightest talents commit long-term to the Reds

The Queensland Rugby Union have announced that scrumhalf Tate McDermott and backrower Fraser McReight have signed with the St.George Queensland Reds for a further four years.

Rising star halfback Tate McDermott has also signed with Rugby Australia and has been viewed as the long term replacement for Will Genia after the Rugby World Cup. The halfback will now remain with the Queensland Reds until at least 2023 following the next Rugby World Cup in France.

The livewire number nine rose to prominence this season under the guidance of Brad Thorn at the Reds with a Wallabies debut seemingly on the horizon for the 20-year old. The announcement comes after Taniela Tupou also inked a four-year contract extension with the Reds earlier this week.

Queensland Reds halfback Tate McDermott said: “I'm excited to sign for another four years with Queensland – a team I’ve not only grown up watching, but supported my whole life. 

Highly rated, McReight made his Super Rugby debut against the Brumbies in Round 6 this year, before he captained the Junior Wallabies to a Grand Final appearance against France at the 2019 U20s World Championships in Argentina. 

The u20s captain has also been tipped for big things and is said to be the heir to David Pocock. 

"I am very excited to have inked a new deal with the Reds that will see me at Ballymore until the end of 2023," said McReight.

"Having the ability to grow and keep developing with this squad was a huge factor in signing this deal and I can't wait to get stuck in and deliver some great results over the next four years," said McReight.
