Munster have announced that former Springbok player, Johan 'Rassie' Erasmus, has been appointed Director of Rugby on a three year deal.
The 43-year-old South African has earned 36 caps for the Springboks as a player and is currently General Manager High Performance of South African rugby, a position he has held since 2012.
The announcement is part of a shake up in the side’s backroom after a disappointing season for Munster. Head coach Anthony Foley will stay on. There is talk that Erasmus may be joined by long-term colleague, friend and Springbok defence coach Jacques Nienaber.
Erasmus made his international debut for the Springboks in 1997 against the British and Irish Lions in Johannesburg. In 1999 the star flanker moved from Free State to the Golden Lions and also earned five caps for his country in the RWC hosted that year.

Nadolo receives 4-week suspension
Crusaders winger, Nemani Nadolo has been suspended for 4 weeks after he lifted Brumbies' Tomas Cubelli fom the ground in what is considered a dangerous tackling position.
Following his suspension, the 'Crusaders' deadliest attacking weapon' will miss the side's next three matches against the Reds, Highlanders and Waratahs as he has pleaded guilty for his action.
Tomane halted by knee injury
Brumbies winger, Joe Tomane, who sustained a knee injury in the 76th minute of their clash with Crusaders yesterday, is "praying for some good news" as he will have undergo scans later today that will determine the severity of the injury that ended his match.
While the length of his absence is yet to be confirmed, Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham ruled Tomane out of this weekend’s match against the Highlanders.
“He’s been outstanding and you look at his game on the weekend, he was superb in attack and defensively he was up against Nadolo and tried to put a number of shots on him,” said Larkham
“He’s been on fire this year, it’s been his best season by a long way.”
The Brumbies will be boosted by the return of flanker David Pocock, who will be back from suspension this week.
