Tony Brown for Highlanders top job?

With the Highlanders on the hunt for a new head coach, they may not look any further than current assistant coach Tony Brown, according to stuff.co.nz.

The former Highlanders and All Black fly-half garnered a reputation as one of the toughest and best attacking stand-offs of his time and has been involved in coaching since 2011.

“We’d be silly not to consider it. He’s been head coach before,” CEO Roger Clark said.

“It’s just something we’re talking about at the moment,” he added. “The key thing is that we’ve got a really capable coaching group. ... We need to make sure that we complement that current group, but really the area that we’ll be targeting is getting a world-class defence coach.”

Brown was head coach of the Highlanders in 2017 and has played the role of assistant from 2014 -2016 as well as in the current year.
