Ulster announce departure of Sam Windsor

Australian Sam Windsor has been granted an early release from his contract with Ulster to allow him to move to America to be with his fiancée, while he will also pursue his rugby career in the region.

“I got engaged about a month ago and my fiancée is over in America so it was a personal decision to join her over there,” explained Sam.

“The plan is to continue to play rugby – it’s a sport that is growing rapidly in that part of the world and it presents a new challenge to me."

The 29-year-old made just three appearances for the province since his arrival from Worcester Warriors 18 months ago.

George Merrick commits to Harlequins

Harlequins have announced that second-row George Merrick has re-signed for the Club.

Confirming the news, Harlequins Director of Rugby John Kingston said: “I am delighted that George has signed a contract extension, committing his long-term future to the Club.
 
“He is another outstanding product of our Academy and I have no doubt that with a continued progression under the shrewd guidance of our excellent coaching group, he can go on to international honours in the not too distant future.”

Having made his Harlequins debut in the 2013 London Double Header, the 6’ 8” second row has gone on to make 43 appearances for Harlequins, scoring two tries.

Leinster's Carbery out for up to 2 months

Leinster out-half Joey Carbery has been advised by a specialist that he needs surgery on an ankle injury and will be sidelined for up to 8 weeks, according to reports.

The 21-year-old will miss his club's three remaining Champions Cup pool games and faces a fitness race for the Six Nations.
