The Favourite To Lead The British and Irish Lions In 2021

Bookmakers have revealed their favourite to captain the Lions 2021 on their tour to South Africa.

Alun-Wyn Jones is a traditional favourite of Warren Gatland having handed Jones the Welsh captaincy following the retirement of Sam Warburton. Warburton lead the Lions on two tours in 2013 and 2017 to Australia and New Zealand respectively.

However, the Irish bookmakers Boyle Sports believe that the captaincy will go to an Englishman in 2021 with Owen Farrell the favourite at 9-4 odds.

The flyhalf went on two tours featuring on the tour to Australia and New Zealand. Eddie Jones handed Farrell the captain's armband for England and he guided the side to the Rugby World Cup final last year.

Wales captain Alun Wyn Jones is next at a moderately priced 5-2 despite that fact that he will be 35 by the time the tour of South Africa comes around next year.

Third in the running according to the bookies is Maro Itoje, who is rated at odds 11-2. Ireland captain Johnny Sexton and Peter O'Mahony are listed at  14-1 and 16-1 respectively with the latter having captained the side in the first test against New Zealand in 2017.
