- 1193
The rematch at Soldier Field saw New Zealand reclaim dominance after an exciting start. Ireland began strongly, but a red card in the first quarter changed the complexion of the game which saw the All Blacks come back even stronger in the 2nd half.
In the first half Ireland opened the scoring with a penalty by Jack Crowley. In the 3rd minute Tadgh Beirne got shown a yellow card which got upgraded to a red card. Despite being down to 14 men, Ireland held a 10-7 lead into half-time, showing guts and discipline, notably in defence.
In the second half New Zealand stepped up with tries from Tamaiti Williams and Wallace Sititi in quick succession put the All Blacks ahead. A third late score in the 70th minutes by Cam Roigard sealed the victory.
A compelling contest that swung dramatically. Ireland’s early hope and grit were undone by a red card and the All Blacks’ second-half mastery. New Zealand takes the win (26-13) and the momentum. Ireland takes the lessons.
