Munster centre Jaco Taute is set for a six-month spell on the sidelines after the Springbok international undergoes surgery to correct ligament damage he suffered on Saturday.
The 26-year-old has made 31 appearances for the Irish province since joining at the beginning of 2016, sustained the injury against Cardiff Blues at Thomond Park.
The injury is a significant blow to the promising centre partnership he formed with summer-signing Chris Farrell, however, Erasmus remained upbeat about his other options in midfield.
“It’s sad but Jaco is a tough guy and he will come back better. He’ll contribute off the pitch and he is a loss,” Erasmus said yesterday after Taute underwent a scan.
Munster face Leinster at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday before Champions Cup pool games against Castres and Racing 92.
