The Stormers opened Super Rugby with a hard fought 28-20 home win over the Jaguares. The Stormers crossed for the only two tries of the first half to take a 15-6 lead into the break. The Stormers got off to the perfect start in the second half as they scored from the restart to take control of the game at 22-6. The Jaguares hit back soon after with their first try to once again trail by nine points. A penalty for the Stormers pushed their advantage to 25-13 with a little over 20 minutes to play. The Stormers then picked up a yellow card and it was all the visitors thereafter as their relentless pressure eventually paid off a with a penalty try reducing the deficit to just 5 points. The Jaguares were unable to take their chances and it would come back to bite as the Stormers kicked a penalty with the last play of the match to deny them a losing bonus point.
