Super Rugby Quarter-Final Highlights: Hurricanes v Chiefs
- 1898
An extremely entertaining Super Rugby quarter-final with the Hurricanes coming away with 32-31 win over the Chiefs to progress into the semi-finals. The game burst into live in the opening minute of the game when Julian Savea raced away for a brilliant intercept try. He almost repeated the feat mintues later when he intercepted Brad Weber's pass and darted into the Chiefs 22 before being shut down. Brad Weber finished off a great Chiefs attack in the 6th minute of the game to level the scores before Beauden Barrett and Damian McKenzie traded penalties. TJ Perenara scored a controversial try before the break to send give the Canes a 7 point lead at the break. The Chiefs started the second half brightly with Anton Lienert-Brown finishing off an opportunistic try in the 50th minute. Perenara scored his second of the night and 48th of his career to put his side back in the lead. Ben Lam put the Hurricanes further in front when he went over for his 15th try of the season and in doing so equalled the record for the most tries scored in a Super Rugby season. The Chiefs fought hard to claim a result with late tries by Damian McKenzie and Lachlan Boshier each scoring tries but the latter's try was scored with time up on the clock. Charlie Ngatai stepped up to convert the try in what was his final game for the Chiefs before heads abroad.
