- 1995
Round 4 of Super Rugby AU saw the Rebels emerge as deserved winners against the lacklustre Waratahs (29-10) while the Brumbies proved themselves to be a class above the Western Force (24-0). We take a look at the statistics and highlight the round’s top performers.
Waratahs flanker Lachlan Swinton and Force lock Fergus-Lee Warner defended bravely, topping the tackle stat with 19 apiece. Henry Stowers (Force) pulled off 18 while Tom Horton (Tahs) managed 17.
Big Rebels lock Matt Philip showed good vigour on attack, carrying the ball a total of 16 times up to the Waratahs defenders. Brumbies winger Tom Wright made 15 carries and hard-working Marika Koroibete (Rebels) carried 12 times.
Tom Wright was in commanding running form on the weekend, coming away streets ahead on the ‘metres gained’ stat with 131. The second-highest total posted was 75 by Koroibete while the Rebels’ Reece Hodge notched up 72.
Rebels prop Pone Fa'amausili was in resounding attacking form against the Waratahs and managed to post the joint-highest number of defenders beaten with teammate Koroibete; the pair each beat 7. Brumbies’ Will Miller and Matt Toomua got past 5 apiece.
Michael Hooper (Waratahs), despite spending 10 minutes in the bin, managed to turnover 3 balls for his team against the rampant Rebels while Jeremy Thrush (Force), Tevin Ferris (Force), Jordan Uelese and Bayley Kuenzle (Brumbies) each made 2.
Tom Wright was difficult to catch on Saturday, executing 4 clean breaks. Matt Toomua pierced the line successfully from the fly-half channel, making a total of 3 while a whole host of others managed 2.
