Super Rugby Aotearoa Rd 4 Highlights | Chiefs v Hurricanes

The last game of round 4 of the Super Rugby Aotearoa, kicked off between the Chiefs and Hurricanes at the Waikato Stadium.


Both teams came into the game without a win and were seeking the much needed victory. Chiefs went down to Crusaders  18 - 13 away last week, while the Hurricanes had a bye.

Mckenzie played his 80th game for the Chiefs and Reed Prinsep played his 50th game for the Hurricanes. Hurricanes started the game on the front foot with a 4th minute try from Kobus van Wyk. Mckenzie brought the Chiefs on the scoreboard with a 3 pointer in the 17th minute.

An injury in the 20th minute for Fraser Armstrong forced Hurricanes to make an early change and brought Ben May on. However, Ben May conceded quite a few scrum penalties. In the 32nd minute, play was stopped due to a head clash and Chiefs was forced into making a substitution as Naitoa Ak Kuoi was stretched off the field and was replaced with Tupou Vaal'i.

Hurricanes led at halftime 20 - 3 to the Chiefs. Scott Scrafton was sent to the bin in the 50th minute for repeated offences in the line out. van Wyk scored his second try of the game in the 60th minutes to extend the Hurricanes lead. However, in the 64th minute, the ref awarded a penalty try to the Chiefs and red carded Scott Scrafton for a second yellow. It sparked a mild come back spirit for the Chiefs but Hurricanes managed to seal the victory. Full-time: Chiefs 18 - 25 Hurricanes.
