Eddie Jones’ side are looking to bounce back after losing their first match of the Autumn Series to Argentina last weekend.
1. This will be just the third time England and Japan have faced off in a Test match.
2. England have lost their last two matches at Twickenham (v Ireland and Argentina), the first time they have lost back-to-back games there since the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
3. This will be the 13th time Eddie Jones has faced a nation he has previously been Head Coach of, winning 10 of 11 against Australia along with his solitary match against Japan.
4. Jones won 34 of his 47 completed matches with the Brave Blossoms (72%) while Jamie Joseph has won 20 of his 39 games as Japan Head Coach (51%).
5. Japan have won just one of their previous 37 games against Tier 1 nations outside their home country (D1 L35), however, their sole win during that period came on English soil (34-32 v South Africa, 2015 Rugby World Cup).
6. Japan won all 10 of their lineouts in their most recent Test match against New Zealand, the most they’ve won in a Test match against Tier 1 opposition without losing one since winning 13/13 against Ireland in June 2017.
7. Manu Tuilagi has been rested for England’s Autumn Nations Series match against Japan with Eddie Jones stressing the need to keep the 31-year-old fit.
