Springboks thinking 'outside the box' with waterboy Rassie Erasmus

Springbok head coach Jacques Nienaber says the Springboks are thinking outside the box during their tests against Georgia in preparation for the British and Irish Lions Series.

One of their ploys saw Rassie Erasmus running water for the Springboks in the first test in 2021 against Georgia on Friday evening.

Erasmus was seen on the field and communicating with the South African players, particularly skipper Siya Kolisi.

Nienaber fulfilled a similar role during the World Cup while Erasmus sat in the coach's box and now the roles have been reversed.

"It was nice for me in terms of being able to chat with Rassie and him giving me feedback from the players and running water on the side" said Nienaber

"Hats off to him for wanting to do that.

"Myself and Rassie always work a little bit out of the box.

"Obviously I can't be on the side of the field, so hopefully he makes himself available for the next game as well."

South Africa marked their return to Test action with a commanding 40-9 victory over Georgia.

The Springboks passed up a couple of promising situations in the remaining 10 minutes, but the damage had already been done as they claimed victory in the first of their two Tests with Georgia ahead of facing the Lions on July 24.
