The Lions have further boosted their squad for the 2019 Super Rugby season with the re-signing of six players currently involved in the Springbok squad.
Captain and no.8 Warren Whiteley is among the group that has committed their future to the Johannesburg-based side, with scrumhalf Ross Cronje, flanker Cyle Brink, lock Marvin Orie, hooker Malcolm Marx and winger Aphiwe Dyantyi all penning new deals.
The news of the re-signings follows the confirmation that Elton Jantjies and Lionel Mapoe have committed their future to the franchise earlier this week.
Whiteley successively led the Lions to three Super Rugby Finals and made his Springbok debut against Ireland in June 2016, he has made over 80 appearances in Super Rugby.
Ross Cronje has been a regular starter for the Lions in past and made his against France last year, he has 76 Super Rugby caps to his name. Flanker Cyle Brink enjoyed a breakthrough season with the Lions this season that has not gone unnoticed by Springbok coach who named Brink in his squad for the upcoming Rugby Championship.
Lock Marvin Orie has shined for the Lions since making the move from across the Jukskei river from the Bulls and made his test debut against Wales in June.
One of the most notably re-signings is that of the ever-improving Malcolm Marx. The young hooker has furthered his claim as one of the finest hookers in the game and has seemingly cemented his place in the middle of the Springbok and Lions pack, since making his Super Rugby debut in 2014.
Apihwe Dyantyi will look to continue his metric rise with the Lions after enjoying a stellar debut Super Rugby season with the Lions that was rewarded with a starting jersey in all three tests against England in June.
