Chiefs secure first win of the season
The Chiefs started the new Super Rugby season with a 23-18 win over fellow New Zealander's the Blues. With Sonny Bill Williams making his return to Rugby Union he was able to enjoy a win for his side on his first game of the season. With the scoreline proving to be quite close in the end, the Chiefs were worthy of the win in what was a fine first half performance. The Chiefs got out of the blocks early on and scored two tries in the first half from Lowe and Heem to lead 20-9 at the break. The Blues responded with three more penalties from Ihaia West, but in the end that was as close as they came with the Chiefs holding out for a 23-18 win.
With Leicester and Gloucester both missing internationals in the Aviva Premiership they went to battle with the Tigers securing an 18-15 win. In a game that saw no tries Burns and Hook went to battle with Burns in the end having the final say with a penalty ten minutes from time. The win now moves Leicester into the top four as they look to claim a semi-final spot come the end of the season. It could of been so different though if James Hook kick managed to have had the distance with the former Perpignan player missing a kick late on. The Cherry and Whites now sit 9th in the table nine points off Leicester with a place in the top four in May now looking extremely difficult.
