Saturday's Top Performing Players

Billy Twelvetrees

Gloucester thumped Quins at Kingsholm today to keep their dreams of qualification for the playoffs alive. The former English international was deployed at outside centre and led by example to help his side to the victory. He seemed to make all the in-roads for Gloucester in the first period, as his intelligent running lines put him through the defensive line on a couple of occasions. He was flawless from the kicking tee as well, slotting a couple on the touchline, to take his tally to 17 for the day.

Duhan van der Merwe – Edinburgh

The South African winger had the game of his season up against the table-topping Scarlets. He scored a couple of tries for the Scots. He fended Tom Varndell and then took him on the outside for the first. His second was a dot-down after a scintillating break and deft grubber kick from his scrum-half, Hidalgo-Clyne. He was the top carrier on the day, making 168m, beating 6 defenders and making 4 clean-breaks. What a performance by the big winger.

Magnus Bradbury - Edinburgh

The young blindside flanker has been coming into some fine form in recent weeks and he continued in that vein on Saturday against Scarlets. He was awarded the MOTM award after an impressive defensive performance, as his side limited the league leaders to just two tries. He managed to make 15 successful tackles and got over for a try to help his side to victory.

Carlo Canna – Zebre

The fly-half was instrumental as his team beat a travelling Dragons outfit to give their fans something to cheer about. He scored a total of 14 points, including the winning try and conversion, which snatched it for the Italians. His kicking out of hand was pinpoint accurate as usual but he looked to take the ball to the line a lot more frequently today. As a result, he managed to make 66m in attack and get over for that 5 pointer at the death.

Tommaso Castello – Zebre

Zebre had a fantastic home win over the Dragons in Parma on Saturday afternoon. Their inside centre was uncontainable in attack all day. He managed to get over for one of his side’s 5 tries helping the Italians to a much-needed victory. The Dragons defence really struggles to prevent him from getting over the gainline, as he made 52m with ball in hand. A hard runner, he was difficult to bring down and thus bet a total of 5 defenders and made 1 clean break.
