Reports have suggested that the final round of the Premiership season is under threat after Sale Sharks' crunch game against Worcester is could be cancelled after a ‘double-figure number’ of positive tests at the club.
The club have since responded to the reports, confirming that their Gallagher Premiership round 22 match with Worcester Warriors, scheduled for 3pm on Sunday 4th October, will go ahead as planned.
The club released a statement saying that although the club have been subject to a number of positive COVID-19 tests, after a thorough consultation, the club, its healthcare professionals and rugby management are confident the fixture can be fulfilled safely in accordance with all COVID-19 guidelines.
Sale Sharks said they will make no further comment at this time.
The final round of the season is set to see the likes of Sale, Wasps, Bristol and Bath all vying for the three remaining play-off places but Sale's involvement now seems unlikely.
Steve Diamond's men could now be forced to forfeit the match, leaving Wasps and Bath with a guaranteed semi-final, and Bristol needing just one point against London Irish.
