RFU to cut 139 jobs to combat projected £107m loss

The Rugby Football Union has confirmed that it plans to its workforce by nearly a quarter, with 139 jobs at risk.

Bill Sweeney, the RFU’s chief executive, said that the measures are being taken to cope with a £107 million shortfall due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Sweeney said it would take up to five years for the governing body to recover from the impact of the pandemic as it announced a consultation over the proposed cutbacks before a final decision to be taken at the end of August.
