Report: Lyon target Hanrahan after failed Marcus Smith bid

Top 14 club Lyon have turned their attentions to the PRO14 as they continue their search for a flyhalf ahead of next season following a failed bid to lure Marcus Smith to the club.

Lyon currently sit 7th overall on the TOP14 log heading into the weekend's action and have been in the market for a first choice flyhalf for some time.

Last year, Jonathan Sexton caught the interest of the club while Lyon were rumoured to be in talks with Handre Pollard before he signed terms with Montpellier.

According to a report in Midi Olympique, Lyon have failed to lure Marcus Smith away from the Stoop and have since turned their attentions to Munster standoff JJ Hanrahan

.

Hanrahan has played over 130 games for Munster scoring 700 points for the club but competition for the starting 10 jersey at Munster is heating up with Joey Carbery nearing a return while Ben Healy has impressed when given opportunities in the first team.

The Munster pivot isn't the only flyhalf linked with a move to Lyon with former Hurricanes and Blues flyhalf Ihaia West drawing a significant amount of interest from both Clermont and Lyon with La Rochelle set to allow his departure once his contract expires at the end of the current season.

Veteran flyhalf Francois Trinh-Duc's contract at Racing 92 also comes to an end this season with a number of clubs interested in his services.
