Remainder of Rugby Championship to be played out in Europe?
- 1950
The complications of Coronavirus are being matched with pragmatism as the fresh outbreaks in New Zealand and Australia have given rise to the notion of a possible solution involving Europe.
Most of the Rugby Championship was set to be played in Australia this year, however, an outbreak in the Western region of the country has thrown a spanner in the works while a presence of the virus has now also been detected in New Zealand.
In light of this, Sanzaar are reportedly considering moving the remainder of the competition to Europe after the Springboks face Argentina on Saturday.
From a commercial point of view, playing Tests in Europe is not an unattractive prospect as the vaccination roll-out there has been successful which renders the possibility of full stadiums a reality. This will obviously include the colossal battle which will be the 100th Test match between the Springboks and the All Blacks – a tantalising prospect for any rugby fans.
Sanzaar are expected to announce their plans shortly.
