The prop joined Quins in 2022 from Wasps Women and made an instant impact, scoring on debut against Worcester Warriors. Despite spending nearly half the season side-lined through injury, Bryony Cleall made a total of nine appearances for the Club scoring five tries. This season Cleall will also take on a coaching role with Harlequins, acting as Forwards Transition coach.
In January, Cleall was appointed as the Club’s Women’s Rugby Players Association (WRA) Representative following an official democratic nomination and voting process. After her appointment she was then made Chair of the WRA.
Commenting on her signing, Bryony Cleall said: “I’m super excited to have re-signed with Quins. This Club was awesome to me last year, I loved it and I think when you’re enjoying your rugby and enjoying being around the people, that transfers into success on the pitch.
“We’re trying to push the programme and be the best in the Northern Hemisphere, I truly believe that’s where this club is headed and I can’t wait to be a part of that.”
Technical Director Brent Janse van Rensburg said: “Bryony is an incredibly intelligent person with a great rugby brain, whom I believe has a bright future ahead of her within coaching. She has added value this past season in coaching support and her coming onboard to coach our transition group as Forwards Coach this season will see our transition group benefit immensely.
“On pitch, Bryony’s ability to influence the game is immense. She is a lot more than just a front row player. She has an incredible skillset and feeling for the game, reading what is in front of her very effectively. She truly influences the game with ball in hand on both carry and offload, and she loves a defensive breakdown too. We look forward to Bryony adding more value to our group in the coming season.”
