PRO14 Quarter-Final Team Of The Week

Munster and Ulster booked their places in the PRO14 semi-finals after narrow victories over Benetton and Connacht.

There were a number of top draw performances in the two games meaning that all four teams are well represented in our team of the quarter-finals. 

1. Dave Kilcoyne - Munster

Solid in the scrum and made his presence felt on around the park carrying strongly, hitting the rucks and making all of his tackles.

2. Rory Best - Ulster


Best stepped up in his final game at Kingspan and guided his side to victory with a stellar performance in the rucks as well as showing some nice touches with ball in hand. His overall game sees him edge the defensive wall of Luca Bigi.

3. Ross Kane - Ulster


Won a few scrum penalties and did some damage on defence forcing a few turnovers and making 10 tackles.

4. Jean Kleyn - Munster

Immense workrate from the Munster man hitting double digits in the tackle and carry departments. Ran a tidy shift at the lineout and was one of the standouts in the Munster pack. 

5. Ultan Dillane - Connacht

An incredibly close call between Dillane and Henderson but the Connacht man gets the nod after a strong defensive display where he did not miss a single tackle making 18.

6. Marcell Coetzee - Ulster

Coetzee may have featured at 8 for Ulster but he finds a place on the side of the scrum after he put in a man of the match performance to help his side reach the PRO14 semi-finals for the first time since 2016.

He made a staggering 24 carries and 14 tackles while also scoring the try that sealed the result.



7. Chris Cloete - Munster

Superb over the ball and tackled strongly thought, he stopped numerous Benetton attacks as well a number of penalties for Munster.

8. Toa Halafihi - Benetton

A huge work rate from the Benetton number 8 as he racked up the carries and tackles as his side looked to upset Munster at Thomond Park. He just edges CJ Stander who immense and forces Coetzee onto the side of the scrum.

9. John Cooney - Ulster

Excellent off the tee to help his side to victory and controlled the game well with his some decisive decisions and a few well-weighted box kicks. 

10. JJ Hanrahan - Munster

Hanrahan came off the bench to win the match for Munster with a clutch long-range penalty. It wasn't just his long-range penalty that got him in the team but his 9 points in total that proved to be vital as well as his defensive efforts where he made all of his 8 attempted tackles. A game-changing substitution from Johan van Graan. 



11. Monty Ioane - Benetton

Busy around the park and kept the Munster defence busy with some testing runs and racked up 61 running metres beating 5 defenders. Matt Healy and Robert Lyttle also put in fine shifts for Ulster.

12. Bundee Aki - Connacht

A blockbuster performance from the Connacht man who was missed when he went off injured shortly after scoring. He was strong on defence dishing out a few thumping hits and was a handful on attack. He was however lucky not to be sin binned in the first half.



13. Luke Marshall - Ulster

A classy display from the Ulster outside centre, he was superb on defence and just as brilliant on the attack.

14. Illiesa Ratuva Tavuyara - Benetton

Simply superb game from the Benetton winger who was named man of the match despite his side going down to Munster. 



He showed off his athletism to score a fantastic try in the corner and was easily one of Benetton's most dangerous weapons throughout.



15. Mike Haley - Munster

Solid at the back and potent on the attack, Haley topped the running metres gained in the encounter against Benetton with 89 metres and managed to beat 4 defenders.
