Premiership semi-final round-up

With the semi-finals done and dusted, Exeter will host Wasps in the final to be held at Sandy Park on Saturday 24 October. The finalists truly deserve their place, Wasps despatching Bristol without much trouble while Exeter buried Bath in a dominant victory.

Wasps vs Bristol:

Wasps took Bristol in their stride with a comfortable 47-24 victory to secure their place in the Premiership final.

The writing was on the wall early on as Wasps posted an early try which they followed up with a couple of penalties before Bristol got on the board.

Wasps slotted another penalty and crashed over for their second try shortly before half-time to give them a score of 23 points to Bristol’s 5.

Bristol scored first in the second half and looked like they were about to initiate a comeback but Wasps were not to be undone, kicking another penalty and scoring an additional try to take the score to 33-12.

Wasps scored again to put the game out of their opponents’ reach, the latter managing to run in two tries in the final ten minutes but it was too little, too late.

Exeter vs Bath:

Exeter pummelled Bath 35-6 in a game which was expected to be somewhat of a closer contest. The Chiefs scored the first try after 17 minutes while Bath stayed in the game via two penalties but it would be all the latter could muster.

After suffering a yellow card towards the end of the first half, Exeter turned up the heat on defence as Bath threw everything they had at them. Despite their efforts, however, Charlie Ewels’ men could not cross the whitewash in the face of a massive commitment from Chiefs.

The half-time whistle sounded with a score of 14-6 to the hosts who ran in another three tries to stamp their authority on the game and book a well-deserved place in the finals. Wasps face as mammoth task ahead of them at Sandy Park as Exeter emerging on the losing side does not seem very likely.
