Harlequins is delighted to announce that Australian international Kaitlan Leaney has signed for the Club, set to join the team following the conclusion of the 2021 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand later this year.
A powerful lock forward, Leaney joins fellow Wallaroos Emily Chancellor and Bella McKenzie in signing for Amy Turner’s side this season.
Debuting for Australia against Fiji in March earlier this year, Leaney will join Harlequins from the Waratahs in New South Wales, where she currently plays alongside Chancellor in the six-team Super W competition.
Leaney said: “I’m so excited to be joining Harlequins. This is a one of the most progressive Women’s club programmes in the world and I can’t wait to be involved with the squad after the World Cup.
“I’m immensely grateful for my time in Australia with the Waratahs and will leave with so many fond memories. Harlequins offers me the opportunity for a new environment and a new challenge in the most competitive league in women’s rugby and I’m looking forward to getting stuck into training and putting my hand up for selection amongst a talented squad.”
Harlequins Women’s Head Coach Amy Turner said: “It’s fantastic to see Kaitlan sign for Harlequins. She is an immensely talented forward who will bring a serious physical threat in the pack.
“Talking to Kaitlan it has been clear that she is highly motivated to come here and make a real contribution to the team whilst testing herself in a different environment. We wish her and her fellow Australian internationals good luck in the World Cup and look forward to welcoming them to the environment here.”
