Postponed PRO14 derbies moved to round 11

Postponed PRO14 derbies moved to round 11

PRO14 Rugby has rescheduled the postponed Italian and Scottish derbies from Round 9 to occur next weekend in Round 11 in order to mitigate the risks currently posed by the pandemic.

Originally, in Round 11, Benetton Rugby had been scheduled to travel to Glasgow Warriors on January 8 with Edinburgh Rugby due to play Zebre Rugby Club in Parma on January 9.

It is uncertain when the current restrictions placed on travel between the UK and Italy will be lifted and this poses a significant risk to the fixtures between these teams as previously planned.

By switching these matches it ensures that all Round 11 games in the Guinness PRO14 require no international travel and teams will have greater control of their environments.

As a result, the Glasgow Warriors v Benetton and Zebre v Edinburgh games will be scheduled for another weekend in early 2021.

The rescheduled games for Round 11 are:

Friday, January 8

Glasgow Warriors v Edinburgh Rugby (19:35 UK / 20:35 ITA)

Scotstoun Stadium, Glasgow

Live on Premier Sports & eir Sport

Saturday, January 9

Zebre Rugby Club v Benetton Rugby (13:00 UK / 14:00 ITA)

Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi, Parma

Live on DAZN, Premier Sports, eir Sport

David Jordan, Tournament Director, PRO14 Rugby: “We are very grateful to our clubs and broadcasters for their support of this change to their Guinness PRO14 fixtures. The pandemic has created a very fluid situation in our sport and, in this instance, we believe it is prudent to prevent international travel where these teams are concerned.”

Confirmation of rescheduled fixtures will be announced in due course, in addition to the postponed Munster v Leinster game from Round 9.
