Paterson returns as AUS Men's Sevens prepare for Seville

Henry Paterson has returned to the Australian Men’s Sevens side as they look to build on their 2022 performances in Spain.

Paterson marks the only change to John Manenti’s side as the young team continues to focus on building consistency throughout their 2022 campaign as they again seek a podium finish.

Henry Hutchison will lead the men’s program in Spain, flanked by his more experienced playing group in Josh Turner, Stu Dunbar and Maurice Longbottom. While Impact Player of the Tournament in Malaga, Corey Toole, will look to build on his recent run of form, scoring six tries last weekend.

The Australian Men head into Seville atop Pool D, following their fourth-place finish last weekend in Malaga. Here, they will kick off their campaign against Kenya before taking on Scotland and Canada in the pool phases.

Currently, the men sit in third position on the world rankings, trailing Argentina by six points, while South Africa leads the standings on 66 points.

Australian Men’s Sevens Head Coach John Manenti said: “We played some fantastic Rugby last weekend in Malaga, where at times we seemed unstoppable in our attack.

“As the team continues to spend more time together, we are continuing to build on our consistency, and that will be a big piece on ensuring we are a regular finisher at the top of the tournament ladder.

“This weekend, we will welcome Henry Paterson back to the World Series fold. Henry has been a big component of the men’s program for the last 18 months, and I’m excited to see him return to the World Series.”
