Montpellier set to break the bank for Goosen

According to multiple reports in France, Montpellier has bought Johan Goosen out of his Racing 92 contract for a reported €1.4 million.

This is not the first time Montpellier have brought a player out of their contract with the French side having reportedly paid Northampton Saints €1 million for Louis Picamoles at the end of last season.

Goosen walked out on his Racing contract in January last year, so he could take up a business opportunity in his hometown of Bloemfontein.

According to reports president of Montpellier Mohed Altrad and Racing 92’s Jacky Lorenzetti, have come to an agreement that will see the former Top 14 Player of the Year join Montpellier ahead of the 2018/19 season.

In an interview in 2017 then Racing coach Ronan O’Gara said Goosen wanted to leave rugby to pursue a ‘rural life’. O’Gara told BT that: “I talked a lot with him, he was convinced that his life was to live on a farm. He said it three weeks ago that it was the will of his wife. If that’s it, that’s it… But it would be a great loss for rugby.”
