12 women’s teams took to the field on Saturday and joined the ranks of Olympians, with France being the first team to record the first victory with their 24-7 win over Spain.
New Zealand made a perfect start to the women's sevens competition, winning all their four matches against Kenya (52-0), Spain (31-5), France (26-7), and USA (5-0).
Team GB has also won all of their matches, stomping over Brazil (29-3), Japan (40-0), Canada (0-22), and Fiji (26-7).

Adriaanse in for injured Nyakane
Springbok prop Lourens Adriaanse has today been called up to the Springbok squad after Trevor Nyakane was ruled out of Boks’ first two matches of the Rugby Championship against Argentina because of an ankle injury.
Ben May and Loni Uhila issued a Citing Commissioner Warning
Ben May and Loni Uhila of the Hurricanes have been issued with a Citing Commissioner Warning for tackling a jumper in the air at a line out during the Super Rugby final on the weekend.
The incident occurred in the 14th minute of the match between Hurricanes and Lions played at Westpac Stadium, Wellington on Saturday 6 August, 2016.
O'Mahony continues as Munster captain
Peter O'Mahony will continue in his role as squad captain for the coming season.
Commenting on the captaincy Director of Rugby Rassie Erasmus said, "...Peter has stood out as a natural leader on and off the field. From a captaincy point of view I quickly realised there was no need to make any change in that regard."
The 26-year-old, who has been Munster captain for the last three years, did not feature for the province last season after sustaining a knee injury in the World Cup pool clash against France in October.

Western Force fullback Dane Haylett-Petty has claimed the 2016 Nathan Sharpe Medal at the club’s annual awards night in Perth.
The newly capped Wallaby finished with a club record 449 votes – polling the most votes in five of the team’s 15 matches including tallying an incredible 64 from a possible 69 votes against the Cheetahs in Round 15.
