Ulster battled back from 12 points to beat Edinburgh at the death, thanks to a superb kick from Ian Madigan.

The game started frantically from both sides, but Edinburgh got into gear quicker, as they put Ulster under some early pressure.

Edinburgh played at a good pace a tempo before they opened the scoring after 14 minutes. McNally scoring from a maul in the corner. Van Dee Walt narrowly missed the conversion.

Ulster created chances but costly errors let Edinburgh off the hook and take a narrow 5 point lead into half time.


Edinburgh started the second half just like the first as they put Ulster under pressure just six minutes into the second half. after Darcy Graham scored a fantastic try in the corner. Van Der Walt calmly slotted the conversion to give Edinburgh a 12 point lead.

Ulster needed to chase, and chase they did. They stepped it up and dominated the next little period.


Ulster eventually got onto the board, with a good try from Lyttle under the posts in the 53rd minute. Burns added the easy extras.

Edinburgh hit back immediately and looked to have the game wrapped up when Dean scored 4 minutes later. Van Der Walt added the extras.

That just spurred Ulster on as they went at it again and scored through Herring after a strong maul. Burns could not add the extras, but they were still in the game.

Ulster continued to chase but also continued to dominate from there. Another strong maul saw Andrew score with 6 minutes to go. Madigan stepped up and slotted a tough conversion from out wide.

With less than a minute to go, Ulster took it up to halfway. Edinburgh just needed to hold their nerve and stay calm, but a deliberate knock down allowed Ulster the chance to win it.

Madigan stepped up from over 40m, held his nerve and stayed cool to slot the penalty and send Ulster into the Pro14 final against fellow their fellow Irish rivals Leinster.
