Livewire prop re-signs with the Rebels

Melbourne Rebels prop Pone Fa’amausili has today inked a new deal that will see him stay at the Melbourne Rebels for at least two more years, to the end of 2022.
Having made the most of his opportunities in Super Rugby AU, Fa’amausili’s highlights package is bursting with rampaging runs and bone rattling hits, which has quickly endeared him to rugby fans across Australia and made those back home very proud of one of their own.

“Staying in Melbourne was always my top priority,” admitted Fa’amausili.
“I played my junior rugby here. I went to school here. I signed my first professional rugby contract here. Melbourne is my city and these are the people I want to represent.”
The Moorabbin Rams junior debuted for the Rebels in 2018, but it has been the twenty-three year old’s eye catching performances in the revamped Super Rugby AU competition that have led to more recent acclaim.
“Having an extra-long preseason with COVID-19 has given me more time to work through the technical side of my game,” stated Fa’amausili.
“The coaches here have done a great job in getting my body right and giving me the confidence to go out there and compete against the best players in Australia.”
Displacing Wallaby Jermaine Ainsley from the starting lineup on occasions this campaign, the 130kg giant has been causing headaches for opposition defences.
“It’s no secret that I love the contact side of the game, but I'm also really learning to love the scrummaging and set pice side of things as well.”
"I know I can improve even further and I'm grateful to have dedicated coaches here at the Rebels who have been investing a lot of time in making me a more rounded player."
Melbourne Rebels Forwards Coach Geoff Parling was excited to see Fa'amausili recommit, but knows the tough work is only just beginning for his young prop.
"We’re really pleased to see Pone extend his time at the Rebels.
It’s important that we keep young, hungry talent here, especially when it’s home-grown from Victoria," said Parling.
"Pone has shown he’s got some great potential and we’ve been really pleased to give him the opportunity to play in Super Rugby AU after really competing in training.
"It’s now in his hands to decide how hard he’ll work to make the best of the opportunities, and help drive the Rebels forward.”
