Lions captain set to join touring squad

The Lions have confirmed that captain Warren Whiteley has passed all of his medical tests and is set to join the rest of the squad this weekend.
The Springbok loose forward picked up an injury during the Springboks end of year tour test against France in November but returned for the Lions during the opening stages of Super Rugby.
He featured against the Jaguares before he picked up another injury against the Stormers and is yet to make another appearance for Johannesburg-based club.
Lions hooker Malcolm Marx has taken over the captaincy in Whiteley's absence. The Lions will be looking to bounce back from their defeat to the Sharks week against the Brumbies this weekend while Whiteley is set to the return against the Crusaders next weekend.
The clash in Christchurch is ultimately a replay of the 2017 Super Rugby Final with the two sides also facing off in the final last year at Ellis Park.
@WarrenWhiteley was cleared on Friday morning by the medical team, and will join the @emirates Lions on their Australasia tour this weekend.#LionsPride pic.twitter.com/4k8jBGttah
