Jordie Barrett is set to sign a new NZ Rugby deal with a twist - report

Having shown some contract flexibility with the likes of Brodie Retallick, Sam Whitelock and Beauden Barrett, NZ Rugby looks set to make similar accommodations for Jordie Barrett.

The young utility back is expected to sign a new two-year deal with New Zealand Rugby but according to a report by Stuff.co.nz, only one of those year's will be with the Hurricanes.

Barrett is to remain with the Hurricanes next season but is understood to be negotiating a clause in his contract which will allow him to switch Super Rugby teams for the second year of his deal.

This follows the news that his older brother, Beauden will join the Blues following the Rugby World Cup in Japan.

Reports across New Zealand have stated that all four of the New Zealand franchises have been interested in the youngest Barret's services which may be the reasoning behind his request for flexibility.

If older brother, Beauden, doesn't take his sabbatical that was included in his deal, Jordie might want to link up with his sibling in Auckland while he could also be swayed to link up with his former u20 boss Scott Robertson at the Crusaders.

Barrett's ability to switch Super Rugby teams halfway through his NZR deal was unique to him.

Players have normally always signed dual deals with NZR and their Super Rugby club through the length of their NZR contract.
