Jonathan Fisher, by mutual agreement with Bristol Rugby, has opted to take time out to assess his playing career following ten years in the top flight.
The 28-year-old made ten appearances for Bristol since joining in the summer, has not featured for the Club since sustaining an injury in December.
Fisher has earned England honours at U20s, Sevens and Saxons level. Under Stuart Lancaster, the back rower also represented an England XV who took on the Barbarians at Twickenham prior to the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
After graduating from the London Irish Academy, Fisher represented Bedford Blues and Northampton Saints.
“Fish has taken the decision to step back from playing. The welfare of our players is of utmost importance and we support Jon’s decision,” said Head Coach Mark Tainton
“In his short time with Bristol, Jon has been a positive and influential character within the group. He led by example with his performances at the beginning of the season and, since his injury, he’s assisted in coaching the Junior Academy, which is a testament to his commitment and enthusiasm for the game.”
Fisher added: “The medical team at Bristol Rugby have been hugely supportive and professional throughout. This has been a difficult decision, but I believe it is a positive one.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to represent some fantastic clubs, playing alongside some great players and characters. In my experience of Bristol Rugby, although short-lived, the future is most certainly bright and I wish all involved every success.”
