Ireland Squad Update: John Cooney Recalled

The Ireland squad returned to Carton House on Sunday and commence preparations for the France game today at the IRFU High-Performance Centre on the Sport Ireland campus.

Meanwhile, there have been some changes to the squad with Ulster scrum-half John Cooney being brought in to provide cover after last weekend's debutant Jamison Gibson Park presented some hamstring tightness post-game.

Centre Garry Ringrose has been ruled out of the remainder of the international window with a facial injury he sustained in the first half win over Italy.

Munster winger Keith Earls is finishing his rehabilitation programme with the squad with a decision on his availability being made over the coming days.

Ireland head into the final weekend of the 2020 Six Nations on top of the table with 14 points after the bonus-point 50-17 victory over Italy.

Andy Farrell's men are the only team with their fate entirely in their own hands. Another bonus-point victory over France at the weekend will give them an unassailable lead at the top of the pile on 19 points, regardless of England’s result in Italy.

If Ireland secure a victory without a four-try bonus point and England do notch a five-point win in Rome, then both teams would be level on 18 points and the destination of the title would come down to points difference.
