Ireland Player Ratings v England

Ireland Player Ratings v England

Johnny Sexton scored 22 points as 14-man Ireland saw off England 32-18 at the Aviva Stadium to end their Six Nations campaign on a high.

Here is how we rated Andy Farrell's men.

15. Hugo Keenan - 8

A superb take in the air led to the try for Jack Conan and he continued to be secure under the high ball.

14. Keith Earls - 8.5

Took his first try brilliantly and finished off another that was unfortunately chalked off. Worked tirelessly of the ball and was a threat in the air and everytime he touched the ball.

13. Robbie Henshaw - 9

Continued his sublime form leading Ireland to victory over England. He was just as if not even more effective shifting a channel wider to outside centre.

Brutal on both sides of the ball and extremely effective in all facets of the game.

12. Bundee Aki - 4

Carried with vigor but wasn't as effective as he has been in the past for Ireland and his red card could have cost Ireland.

Some strong carries are a norm in his game and was solid enough defensively.

11. Jacob Stockdale - 6.5

Would have loved to see more ball on his return to the Irish starting line up.

Didn't do anything too spectacular with the ball in hand but was caught out defensively once or two. Solid return but he can offer much more with ball in hand when he does get it.

10. Jonathan Sexton - 8

Marshalled Ireland's attack wonderfully and was just as good on defence. Nailed all of his kicks from the tee while his kicking out of hand was just as accurate.

9. Conor Murray - 7

Not a flawless performance from the scrumhalf as he was caught out by one of George Ford's kicks but Murray wasn't too far off the mark.

His kicking and service off the deck was accurate and swift.

Sent to the bin late on for an accumulation of penalties.

1. Dave Kilcoyne - n/a

Disappoint for Kilcoyne who managed just 20 minutes before he was forced off the pitch.

2. Rob Herring - 8

Ireland's lineout and scrum operated well against England and Herring was at the heart of that effort. Just one lineout from Ireland's 11 went astray.  Finished as Ireland's joint top tackler.

3. Tadhg Furlong - 9

Monstered the England scrum throughout the game. His carries and tackles were at his usual high standard. Tadhg Furlong is back to his best.

4. Iain Henderson - 7.5

Made the most metres in the Ireland pack. Excellent at the lineout and aggressive on defence. A few errors hurt his ratings somewhat but another solid performance this campaign.

5. Tadhg Beirne - 8

A few silly penalties but Beirne were superb for Ireland once again. He won three turnovers and was a threat with ball in hand making nine carries, six passes and completed an offload.

6. CJ Stander - 8

His final home test at the Aviva. Stander was excellent, as per usual, with ball in hand carrying strongly into contact. He defended well too.

His collisions with Billy Vunipola was a joy to watch.

7. Josh van der Flier - 7

Stripped the ball off Billy Vunipola superbly with Ireland looking dangerous on attack. Van der Flier was at the heart of the Irish defence but wasn't too effective on attack.

8. Jack Conan - 8

Two big plays in the first half, one assist and one try. Continued well with strong carries and solid defence.

He took his opportunity with both hands.

Replacements:

Ronan Kelleher (6.5), Cian Healy (8),  Andrew Porter (7), Ryan Baird (6), Peter O'Mahony (7), Jordan Larmour (6)
