The Highlanders are reportedly looking to snap up the signature of Crusaders' first five Mitchell Hunt for next year as the Dunedin franchise continue their search to replace Lima Sopoaga.
According to New Zealand publication, Stuff.co.nz the talented playmaker is close to signing a multi-year deal with the Highlanders after finding his game time limited in Christchurch due to the presence of All Blacks Richie Mo'unga and Brett Cameron.
Highlanders head coach Aaron Mauger didn't want to comment on the move when approached by Stuff on Thursday but confirmed that he is on the lookout for a No 10.
Marty Banks returned from Japan on a one-year deal at the start of the season while Josh Ioane has been Mauger's go to man this season with Bryn Gatland getting a few opportunities before his season was ended by a leg break.
If Hunt were to join the Highlanders, it would give the franchise more options with both Ioane and Hunt able to play at fullback, a position that will open up when Ben Smith leaves the Highlanders at the end of the year.
