Heinz to trade Gloucester for Worcester?
- 1972
While at this stage nothing has been confirmed, recent reports indicate that Gloucester scrumhalf Willi Heinz hopes to trade his Cherry & White jersey for the Worcester Warriors colours next season, according to The Rugby Paper.
Heinz joined Gloucester’s ranks in 2015 from the Crusaders in his native New Zealand, and has since notched up 85 appearances for the former.
The 34 year-old is under contract with Gloucester until the conclusion of next season, however, his contract does contain an early release clause which, it is understood, he wishes to utilise.
Warriors are busy bolstering their stocks after the possibility of relegation from the Premiership was taken off the table for the next year, and have already acquired the services of Bath scrumhalf Will Chudley on a two-year deal. There has also been talk that current Warriors number 9, Francois Hougaard, wishes to return to South Africa in the near future, so it makes sense that Alan Solomons and co. might be on the lookout for another scrumhalf.
Heinz is a player of good experience and quality, boasting 13 caps for England to date, and would no doubt be an asset to the Warriors outfit, should he opt for that particular course of action.
