Halfpenny ruled out of England clash

Halfpenny ruled out of England clash

Wales have been dealt a blow after full-back and goalkicking ace Leigh Halfpenny was ruled out of today's Six Nations clash with England.

Halfpenny has a foot infection, which has swollen badly, and misses the Twickenham clash.

His place in the team is taken by Gareth Anscombe, with Owen Watkin coming onto the replacements' bench.

It is thought Rhys Patchell will take over Halfpenny's customary kicking duties. Anscombe has been preparing for the match behind closed doors in the 15 position.

The Cardiff Blues man has made his name as a fly-half, but is comfortable at full-back and played in that position before for Wales in the World Cup quarter-final with South Africa. That big game also took place at Twickenham.

This will be only his sixth start and 13th appearance for Wales.
